Anchor type wiper impeller agitator is consists of a shaft and an anchor type propeller and can be mounted centrally or at an angle. It is mainly used in high viscosity blending application.
A typical tangential flow impeller is the anchor, which generally consists of two parallel blades that are connected via a cross-bar shaped to match the contour of the vessel bottom. Its primary task is to reduce the thickness of the viscous boundary layer adhering to the vessel wall and to thus improve heat exchange. Gate & frame type impellers, which are still used ocaassionally, have similar properties to anchor impellers.
Paddle, Anchor, or Gate have only 2 blades. These extend close to the tank wall and have tip speeds between 80 to 120 meters per minute. These push and rotate the liquid in a laminar flow. There is no axial or radial mixing. The width of blade is 1/8th or 1/10th of the agitator diameter.
